A x64 useless...upgrade

Hey all !
I am into academics and I am using a Data mining function to come around 5 GB data sets.
Recently, i bought a intel i7 processor (6 GB RAM) to make my life easier...
Only when i installed a Windows 7 x64 OS, did i realize that the version of my Data mining function CANNOT even be installed on x64 architecture !!!
The new version of this software - that supports 64 bits OS - is TOO expensive for me to buy...
I ended up using a 32bit XP Pro OS, to be able to install my tool. This reduced my RAM availability to 2.7 GB instead of 6 GB.
In effect, it seems that i wasted a whole bunch of $ for a useless upgrade...
If there is anyone with suggestions, please let me know..
