Windows Vista Update

Why did windows vista automatically perform an update during my presentation?

I was at a major corporation yesterday using ppt and in the middle of my presentation, windows vista decides to automatically update itself and shuts down my presentation and would not let me restart or override!

Fortunately I had a cd as back up and we used someone else's laptop.

But I'm sure the impression I left with the 22 participants was not the one I had intended!!
