Can't access Microsoft Word on Vista 64 as default word processor

I downloaded Microsoft Works software to put Microsoft Word on my new Computer (Windows Vista 64)used this word processor several times several times.

I just pulled up files on my memory stick written on Corel WordPerfect.

It brings up--"Open With" "Choose the program you want to use to open this file" box.

I have pulled up through browsing all the available programs and my Microsoft Word program is not to be found, it is not even an option to choose, yet when I go back to my desktop and double click Word it is readily accessable.

Why won't it list Word on any program lists and how can I access it open these Wordperfect documents?
