Can't download Vista updates. Home Basic

Mi laptop came loaded with Vist Home Basic, and since a year just got error 8000FFFF every time I tried to download SP1.
My system remain as purchased. I had tried all different possibilities but nothing works.
Any of you have an idea? Thanks in advance
