Windows Vista Update

Can't view photos...programs won't open

When I try to view my pictures windows quits responding, no matter which program I am using.

I try to access them in my "pictures" folder, but when I click on a photo and try to modify it at all, Windows stops responding.

When I try to open Corel Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop the program appears to be opening, but then stops responding at the title screen. HELP!!!
