Re: Problems with memory usage
by: Anonymous

I have a similar problem with how Vista uses the memory on my laptop.

I have a Toshiba Satellite (laptop) with a T2080 Pentium Dual Core processor and 1GB of RAM. I got this system less than a week ago and it came installed with Windows Vista Home Premium. I've noticed that at least 52% - 58% of my memory is constantly in use. This is the case even when I am not running anything at all. Basically:

I start the computer, wait for about 10 minutes, then check mem usage in the task manager and it's between 53% - 58%. There is nothing in my Start Up folder. And other than the "services" being run by the o.s. there are no programs (virus protection and such) running in the background.

Who's using all this memory? I sincerely hope it's not the bloody o.s. - I mean 500 megabytes of mem usage just while idling is RIDICULOUS!

So, is this a common problem among Vista users or is it restricted to certain types of systems? Does anyone know of a work-around or a patch that addresses this?

merci.
