I was pretty excited about buying a new pc- I was running on about a 7 year old system that was upgraded to the max, and figured I'd buy a new system mostly for gaming with the capablities of doing a tad home office stuff.
I purchased one of Alienwares' new m-9750 laptops, with Vista O/S.
And, upon its arrival, promptly discovered that it WILL NOT RUN ANY WINDOWS GAMES OTHER THAN THOSE PROGRAMMED FOR VISTA!!!.
-I have been collecting computer games for the past 15 years, and every last game I have runs fine either my WIN 98 system, or my wifes' WIN XP PRO laptop.
I was totally dismayed to find that, with the exception of World of Warcraft, absolutely none of my games would work with vista, period, not even games MADE BY MICROSOFT!!!!.
I am now faced with either spending and additional $300 to DOWNGRADE to XP PRO, or losing about $500 in restocking and shipping fees to return the system to alienware.
I am leaning toward just returning it, because everytime I look at it, I get disgusted, thinking that a company that has built its reputation on selling gaming computes sold me a comp that THEY KNEW would only run about .05 % of comp games currently out there.
Frankly, if I had to do it over again, I would have waited another year, and stuck with my 7 yr old system that, while outdated, runs infinitely more games than the brand-new system I just bought.
What a disgusting disappointment.
And, from talking to my consultant buddies (unfortunately after I bought this thing), it seems that businesses find Vista repulsive as well.
Disgusted in Ohio.
