I finally went back to a restore point that I knew was good (for me it was i month prior) and did a repair using system restore. For me it worked. I still have no idea what happened to cause the blue spinning circle of death, but I did get rid of it.

I went to control panel, backup and restore center on the left there are 2 choices, Repair Windows using System Restore or Create a Restore Point or Change Settings. Chose the repair. another window comes up, chose next, there should be some dates listed when the system last set a restore point, if you feel your problem started further back, check the box at the bottom that says show restroe points that are over 5 days old. chose the one that is a close as you can get. You might lose some information that has been recently downloaded or changed, but you can always update, change and download again. it sure beats the heck out of seeing that stupid circle. Hope this works for you!!!

I have the EXACT same problem -- same computer and same vista version.

Have you found a solution? This is driving me crazy. My computer is 3 months old and I don't want to pay for software that Microsoft should supply to fix the problem.

Otherwise, I plan on going back to Windows XP.

Thanks,
