Installed Windows Vista "important" update and my computer won't start

by Jen
(Seattle, WA)

After installing update, Toshiba restarted to a black screen with one line of white print running like a script. Random letters and numbers nothing was coming up.

I shut computer down and reboot. Came to a screen saying due to errors that either software or hardware was not installed properly windows could not start.

I had two choices to launch repair or start windows normally- if you pick this choice it always goes to the black screen but every time I picked the other choice the repair would say it was "attempting repairs" but never work I've tried it now three separate times once for 2 hours, once for 3 hours, and once for over 10 hours.

I have also tried pressing f8 and selected last known good configuration and that goes to that black screen with the line of white random writing.
