RE: Slow Vista on Laptops
by: Liam

I had pretty much the same problem. However just switching off your anti-virus can speed up your computer no end. Just exercise CAUTION!

Otherwise, try extremetech's "speed up vista" routine. However some of the steps could be dangerous to your pc if you don't strictly follow the advice.

And check you aren't starting up a million and one things you don't need when you turn on your laptop (e.g. msn messenger, itunes etc)

Take care.

Try it
by: Andy

Maybe your laptop cames with a lot of stupid softwares pre-installed. Try use Windows Defender, go to Tools/Software explorer and see how much programs are inatializing with Vista. It´s not slow, and it´s not need to restart all the time, maybe is something wrong with your configuration.

I think you just don't know hoe to tweak Vista...
by: Anonymous

Have you tweaked Vista to its fullest potential? My Vista is way faster than XP, and I have a mid-range laptop as well. I , and all my friends have had the same experience.

I find it hard to believe that our copies of Vista work so well, and yours doesn't. Maybe if you tweaked Vista you would have a different experience, because Vista operates way faster the XP on an average system...not out of the box mind you, but after being tweak.

Vista is runs fine for me
by: mark from CA

I have the opposite exp. I have HP DV6605 laptop w/1 gb memory and am totally pleased. It runs fine, hardly ever needs to be restarted.few if any crashes. makes great photo dvds w dvd maker.it has been a great all around system.
I Installed SP1 and honestly I would never go back to xp or 2000.

I also have a desktop running vista and a wireless network...I started computing in the late 80's and vista is by far the most stable os i have ever used. Most of us who used XP before the 2 XP service packs know how unstable that was.

Take care
