Totally SLOW?

I am using DELL XPS M1530 Laptop, windows vista home premium 64 bit,2.5 GB ram, when i open Autocad,Archicad,MS Office 2007 etc Softwares it takes a long time to open when i contact dell service they told vista is the problem what should i need to do to improve its performance and when i open these softwares in XP it too fast.
