I totally understand your comment, but it would have been nice to have the install stop me with a "WHOA" somethings wrong ..... before I finished,
and I could have used the vista up-grade on another laptop. So, all I have now is a $99 frizbee.

Before a major OS upgrade, you should always do your homework re: HW compatability.

As much effort as they put into supporting backward capability and the millions of potential permutations of HW combinations - you still can't expect Microsoft to package every device driver for every low-end device used in every boat anchor PC made.

If you buy non-mainstream, be prepared to sometimes either find the manufacturer hasn't bothered to upgrade their drivers/software or to have to hunt around for it.

In this case, Ralink does have Vista drivers available - hopefully the model you have is one of the supported models - you'll have to download it from their website and install per their instructions
