Up-Grade-to-Windows Vista Home Premium - "Gotcha"

Gotta nice "Averatec-7100 Series" Laptop....running sweet on "XP" ....give it to daughter, but wanna make it nicer.....so "Up-Grade" to Vista...."BAD IDEA".
Upgrade went well but now it won't recognize the Ralink-Network-Adapter.
Vista tells me to go-back to "Averatec"...got nothin....tells me to go to Ralink....got nothin.
All I want is to be able to download a driver - ANY Driver that will make Vista see the
adapter.
I paid hundred dollars to be stuck with replacing the network adapeter, cuz therez no driver available?
Should go back to "XP" but don't have the installation disks anymore so I guess I'm stuck.....
I would even be happy with being able to install the upgrade on another laptop, but this upgrade is only good for One install.
Therez gotta-be-away to fix this thing without buying something else, but I'm getting so frustrated that I'm ready to turn it into a frizbe.
Any Ideas?
