Vista 64 bit and Turbo Tax

31 Mar 2009 I recently upgraded from dial-up to DSL. So I bought a new computer to replace my 10 year old system with the intention of being able to run Turbo Tax. Turbo Tax no longer supported my old OS. Costco had some great deals on Dell computers. I wanted a good system I could use for many years before I needed to upgrade. I selected the Dell XPS 630 with 6 BM of memory. It ONLY came with Windows Vista 64 bit.
Shame on me for not doing my homework…The system screamed along even though I had the slowest DSL connection possible. I was VERY happy with the system performance until I tried to load Turbo Tax 2008. That is when I found out that the industry is not quite geared up for 64 bit processors and OSs. Dell tech support won’t help me because Turbo Tax is “3rd party software”. Turbo Tax by Intuit keeps pointing to the system requirements written in very tiny print on the box that say “32 bit systems”. So here I sit, dead in the water, with 14 days left to solve my problem…..
Are you going to buy a new system and are thinking about Vista…DON’T!!!
Are you going to buy a new system and are thinking about getting a 64 bit system…DON’T!!!!
And that’s all I have to say about that.
