Vista Home Premium Updates

Everytime my Vista Home Premium automatically updates it disables the usb ports and I am unable to connect when I insert my att card?
Will it do this every time Vista does its automatic updates?!
And how do I correct this? Will I have to uninstall my att and reinstall everytime?
