Vista problems

I have serveral problems with Vista.
First off, when I try to uninstall a program (Nero 7), part way through the uninstall, the "Windows Installer stops working."
I get this a lot with some other programs and even while installing some. The program stops working. Now I know these programs worked on XP, what is going on here?
