I purchased a Compaq laptop/notebook PC and the configuration is as follows,
AMD Turion X2 x64 CPU
1GB DDR2 RAM
nVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 Grapics Card
DVD R RW +- Drive, Broadcom Wireless Adapter + Bluetooth, 3 USB ports, Network card (nVIDIA), Dial up modem.
All built in,
Now after installing the x64 Vista Ultimate OS that was included in the standard Vista Ultimate box. I personally have seen that it actually works faster and can perform disk cleanup and defragmenting more reliably, many applications I found to be compatible work and open twice as fast as they did on the standard 32 bit OS.
I am an ordinary consumer using the OS, I perform tasks such as converting audio formats and videos to other formats, burning data onto DVD's, watching live TV, PC Gaming and all these tasks perform well if not really well on x64 compared to 32 bit.
I have seen a big improvement, not to say I didn't have problems, when I wanted to install the first time, drivers for my laptop were not all available so I waited until every driver for x64 Vista was released. I can now make use of my computer the way it was meant to be used.
Safe with better security features, faster in terms of applications and tasks, and more reliable as it makes use of all the bits the CPU offers unlike the 32bit OS which doesn't fully take advantage of the power available.
