It takes for ever [12]minutes to boot and this cervice packs 1,3 0 % complete keeps coming up!

I was having this problem too. It started way back when I tried to install VistaSP1. I had to do a lot of playing around and tweaking just to get it to install. Then when VistaSP2 came out, I had similar rough problems getting it to install. My features dialog was blank, I could not even run a Vista repair installation.

The procedures I went through to get it working:

Uninstall all .NET Framework components (This may not have been necessary, but I'm of course unable to check now.)

SFC /SCANNOW (System File Checker) (This was run automatically a few times recently.) http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d....mspx?mfr=true

CHECKSUR (KB948721) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/

The culprit on my system appeared to be KB905866 which never installed correctly, and was supposedly a junk e-mail filter for microsoft mail.

This error signifies that windows update files in vista are corrupt. This happens as a result of the computer, in my case a toshiba satelite L300, powering off during the instalation of an automatic update eg. battery runs out at 03:00 AM. The only way to resolve this problem is by going into SETUP in vista instalation cd and reinstalling windows update. The only problem for me is that my computer did not come with a vista cd, vistya was already installed on the computer. I have authentification label on the laptop but microsoft does not make required files available online.

I agree. Just too busy working on other products to con us into buying so they won't have to solve this problem. We poor people "have" to make it work. HURRY UP already!

This is obviously not a new problem, and one that is very frustrating for users. Even those who aren't afraid to try fixing it! Why has Windows vista not developed patch to solve this by now?
