Windows Update Failed Error found: Code 80070005

I've had this problem since last Dec.07. Can't install any security updates or updates for Windows Vista. I'm running Home Premium on HP Pavilion dv9500 Notebook PC. I can't even install Norton 360. Only been able to update drivers. I've tried many of the suggestions regarding this problem; renamed the Software Distribution folder, ran reset.cmd, created new profile, and ......!!!?@$# I'm thinking about doing a system recovery as a last resort. Please help! Martin
