Windows Vista and Adobe Photoshop

by George Taylor

I am in the learning stage really.

I recently bought a computer that came with a 500 gig hard drive and 3 gigs of ram upgradeable to 8 gigs.

I use Photoshop and do alot of photos. Because Photoshop is aleged to be a memory hog, and it does move somewhat slow, I just upgraded to six gigs of ram.

In control panel under display the computer still only reconizes the original 3 gigs.

This caused me alarm, especially when I was told that Photoshop will reconize up to four gigs, but with a 64 bit system Photoshop will reconize up to 5 gigs.

I called HP tech support. At this time I was told by tech support in order for the computer to reconize the upgrade to 6 gigs, I would have to go to a 64 bit copy of Vista operating system.

Going into setup, it shows the computer does actually see the 6 gigs of ram, which causes me to believe that I am still getting the benefit of the extra memory, at least in part.

So bottom line is I am not going to convert to a 64 bit OS until I find out more about the ups and downs.

I feel I am ahead of the game as I have 6 gigs of memory and and Athlon 64X2 Dual-Core processor. I am using Vista Home Premium 32 bit system.

P.S. I hope Mr. Gates does a lot of things to "Vista" to make me like it better than I do up untill this point, as I believe it is not going to go away.
