Windows vista home premium updates

Windows updates are set to download every night at 11 pm.
When they do I get a message on the desktop screen'UPDATESNOT CONFIGURED CORRECTLY.REQUIRE REVERTING TO CHANGES.
DO NOT SWITCH OFF YOUR COMPUTOR' Why does tis happen?
I also find when I check the updates I find more often updates failed.
The P.C. is little over 13months old.Why,???
