Minimum Memory for Vista
by: Paul Masley

The Minimum ram needed for Vista 64 is 4 gigs (not listed on the box). Microsoft only list the minimum to get an install. Common knowledge is to double or even triple what the minimum states.

The other flavors of Vista will run on 1 gig, but the OS run best on 2 gigs. This can be done with 1 gig of memory and a 1 gig thumbdrive. Your system should support Readyboost. Try a 1 gig thumbdrive and see if helps.
