XP vs Vista - performance

I got my new laptop with Windows Vista.

I feel it is bit slow eventhough i have 1GB of RAM on the laptop.

I think Vista requires at least 2GB of RAM to give good performance.

Windows XP works very well even on 512MB RAM.
